Many years ago when I was a student of English Literature in college, we studied a play called 'Dr Faustus' by Christopher Marlowe, where the central character sells his soul to the devil to gain power which he then uses for all the wrong reasons. The key phrase is he 'sold his soul'.
In this modern world of ours, there are countless people who seem to have sold their souls...It's difficult to figure out who is fake and who is genuine. In the war between good and evil, so many hide their true faces behind false masks that it's impossible to decide who to trust.
There are many things happening around the world currently that may tempt you to become cynical and bitter and stop trusting everyone around you.
I just want you to have faith and remember that there are still countless people in this world whose souls are NOT for sale, who will not abandon their values or morals just because of peer pressure. It takes a while for good to triumph over evil - it's a slow train but it will arrive eventually. Until then, don't give up. And remember, your soul is not for sale.
As Scott Alexander once said: 'All good is hard. All evil is easy. Stay away from easy."
