At most functions/events/parties, I spend some of my time talking, some listening and a huge chunk of my time simply observing. It helps me understand human nature better and enriches my writing process. I am amazed at how so many of us allow self-imposed boundaries to seep into our conversations and thought process. I’ve heard conversation snippets like ‘if only things were different’…’I’m too old’…’I’m too busy’…’I’m too tired…’…’No one understands me…’ and I’ve observed the look of quiet resignation on people’s faces when they say these phrases. There are some problems in life that are VERY REAL and we cannot deny that they can stop us in our tracks and prevent us from doing the things we want to do. But that’s not what I’m talking about here. I’m talking about the easy route so many of us take by CONVINCING OURSELVES that a certain dream is impossible because of x,y or z. Next time you catch yourself saying ‘I can’t do it because…’, remind yourself that there is always more than one route to each destination. If THIS doesn’t work, there’s always THAT. At the end of our journey, let’s look back and say we gave it our best shot. If the Universe is waiting to make it happen, why stand in our own way?
